I love filling the walls of our home with family pictures. This includes photos of both our immediate and extended families, taken generations ago as well as just last week.
(The following wall galleries are of images from this super fun family sailing session.)
I’m not someone who enjoys seeing myself in photos. Quite the contrary. Just like most people, I can pick out all of my flaws within a few seconds of looking at my picture.
But, when I see a photo of my family loving each other and having fun, well then my focus isn’t on how I look, but rather I go back in time to that happy moment.
If I’m walking through a room and quickly passing by one of our picture walls, it never fails, no matter how many times I look at them, our family pictures bring a smile to my face.
At other times throughout my day, when I steal a quiet minute to relax on the sofa, I like to stare at our picture walls for longer periods of time and be transported back in time.
Having these pictures on our walls makes me happy. That’s for sure. But, I also take the time and make the effort to put these photographs on the walls for my family. I probably do it more for their benefit.
Our walls of family photos make my kids happy too. My two little ones have grown up with pictures of themselves and our family on our walls, and I believe our picture walls have given their self-confidence a boost. These photographs aren’t so much portraits of them and us looking pretty, but rather us being happy, having fun, and loving on each other. Not only do we tell them and show them everyday that we love them, but they are reminded of it when they look up at our walls.
After all, nothing is more important than family.
If you like the idea of getting your photographs off your computer and onto your walls to enjoy everyday, then here are a few wall gallery ideas to get you inspired. I am always more than happy to help my clients print and hang their images, so please contact me if you would like me to work up your very own wall gallery mock-ups.
