I met this family at Kent Youth Lacrosse this year. While dad was coaching one of the boys' teams and our kids were at practice, mom and I chatted and got to know each other on the sidelines.
This is a fun-loving, active family who loves the Eastern Shore and being outside, especially playing lacrosse.
So much so that when big brother comes home from school, the first thing he does is throw off his book bag, grab his stick, and head outside to their goal. Between the lacrosse goal, the swing set, monkey bars, and sandbox; they have built their backyard around their love of being outside and active. It didn't take long for us to decide on their backyard as their shoot location.
During every one of my photo shoots, I enjoy watching everyone's personalities emerge. Dad is very good at making any situation funny, and mom is very patient and loving. Big brother is a rule follower, shy, and an excellent role model for his little brother. Little brother looks up to his big bro and keeps everyone on their toes (and sometimes hits dad in the head with a lacrosse ball by accident). Tillie, their one-year-old puppy, is non-stop energy!
These are the different types of personalities I see during my visit that I hope to capture in their photographs.
Every new backyard photo session I shoot immediately goes to the top of my favorites. There's just something special about having your family portraits taken in and around the comfort of your home, in the sanctuary of your backyard. Everyone is so relaxed and a special place, your home and backyard, is being recorded in your family's pictures. And, for me, that's the perfect recipe for successful family portraits!
